I am pleased to welcome you to this website.
This Office, which was established in 2004, functions as an ombudsman service and compliance agency in relation to state services through Irish.
This website acts as a one stop shop or central information point in relation to all aspects of the Official Languages Acts 2003, the Official Languages (Amendment) 2021 Act the Office of An Coimisinéir Teanga.
We provide an insight on this website into what we do and how we do it.
This website has recently been redesigned in order to ensure that the information provided is more accessible and user friendly.
The aim of the office of An Coimisinéir Teanga is to provide an independent high quality service whilst fulfilling our statutory obligations to ensure state compliance in relation to language rights.
We intend to ensure fairness for all by dealing in an efficient, professional and impartial manner with complaints regarding difficulties in accessing public services through Irish.
I should point out that this website does not offer a comprehensive legal interpretation of the Act and the information provided here should not be regarded as legal advice.
I would like to confirm that, together with the staff of this office, I will be pleased to deal with questions or complaints in relation to language rights and obligations should you wish to contact us.
Complaints about state services through Irish may be made online, should you wish. Alternatively, complaints can be made or further information sought by contacting us by post, fax, email or telephone using our lo-call number.
Similarly, we provide advice to state organisations in relation to their language obligations under the Act so as to assist them in ensuring compliance with their statutory duties.
